Post 76 Baseball Announces Award Winners

The North Haven American Legion baseball program held its annual postseason dinner on Aug. 4. Some of Post 76’s top players were presented with awards for their contributions throughout the recent summer season.

Dom Fusco and Brendan Clark shared Most Valuable Player honors for the North Haven Senior Legion team, which won 13 games this year. Clark also won the Batting Award, while the Pitching Award was shared by Trevor MacDonnell and Preston Young. Fusco and Kevin Lucey both took home the Best Defensive Player Award, plus Lucey was chosen as North Haven’s Most Improved Player. Mike Kurk and Hunter Iacobelli were co-recipients of the Sportsmanship Award and Kurk also received the Wise Guy Award. Kurk and Fusco were additionally the recipients of the Dan Riccio Americanism Award. Following the season, Charlie Flanagan announced that he was stepping down as head coach after a 20-year tenure. Tim Binkoski, who was an assistant coach this season, was named head coach at the postseason dinner.

North Haven’s Junior Legion team took second place in Zone 2 with a record of 14-10 and then won two games in the State Tournament to finish with an overall record of 18-12 this summer. Post 76’s Most Valuable Player was Nick Perillie, who was also presented with the Batting Award. Luca Lawrence was the winner of the Pitching Award and Jake Bencivengo won the Best Defensive Player Award. Mike Salzano earned the Sportsmanship Award for North Haven, while Colby Cusano was the club’s Most Improved Player. North Haven’s co-head coaches were Pete Civitello and Pete Katynski.

The Most Valuable Player for the Post 76 Prep Legion squad was Zach Pincince. The Batting Award went to Dan Canivaciola and Ryan Sullivan won the Pitching Award. Jason Landino was named the Most Improved Player, Matt DeRosa won the Best Defensive Player Award, and Post 76’s Sportsmanship Award was won by Dylan Brockamer. Jake DeRosa was North Haven’s head coach.
