The North Haven Senior American Legion baseball team began its season by playing two non-zone contests against Wallingford last week. Post 76 came away with a 5-4 victory on the road in its opener on June 9 and then lost 4-0 at home on June 11. Head Coach Charlie Flanagan’s club opens its Zone 2 schedule this week.

North Haven’s first game took place at Pat Wall Field in Wallingford and featured Alphonse Fusco hitting a two-run double that put Post 76 in the lead for good. Trevor MacDonnell was the winning pitcher with relief from Brendan Clark, Preston Young, and Dom Fusco. Clark also had two hits in the win.

Two days later, North Haven hosted Wallingford and took a 4-0 defeat. Coach Flanagan said that Mike Kurk pitched effectively in the loss.

North Haven, which has two new co-head coaches this year in Pete Civitello and Pete Katynski, started things off by hosting a doubleheader versus Orange on June 6 and swept the opposition by scores of 12-5 and 7-3. Three days later, Post 76 faced Hamden for a double dip at home split the pair by dropping the opener 7-1 and winning the nightcap 3-0. North Haven closed the week by playing two in Stratford on June 12 and took a pair of defeats by final scores of 9-6 and 2-1.
