Flip-Flop Gymnastics Shows Well At Trinity College
Flip-Flop Gymnastics Xcel teams, as well as its Level 3, 4, 6, and 7 squads, competed at the DGS Invitational at Trinity College in Hartford from Jan. 15 to 17.
The Xcel Platinum team was represented by Emily Brucker and Mikayla Bruton of Deep River, plus Sarah Cartelli of Essex. Brucker led the group with first place on both vault and floor, a high score of 9.2 on floor, and took second all-around with a 34.325. Cartelli earned an event high of 9.3 for first place on floor, as well as seventh all-around with a 33.6. Bruton posted a high of 9.1 for fifth on floor and totaled a 32.4 all-around.
The Xcel Gold team was led by Sierra Cazassa of East Haddam with 9s on all four events, including a high of 9.55 for first on vault and seventh all-around with a 35.4. Jenna Palko of Old Saybrook came in first place for her high of 9.4 on bars and finished second all-around with a 36.65. Anna Donato of Old Lyme earned second on bars for her event high of 9.2 and finished with a 35.9 for sixth place all-around. Sarah Tozier of East Haddam posted an event high of 9.1 for fourth place on bars and totaled a 35.4 for seventh all-around. Katie Shumann of Old Saybrook earned her high score of 9.3 for fourth place on vault and finished 10th all-around with a 35.25.
Paige Thomas of Ivoryton led the Xcel Silver team with 9s on all four events, gaining first place for her high of 9.4 on bars and first place all-around with a 37.10. Grace Jacaruso of Essex also earned four 9s, with a fourth place for her event high of 9.35 on vault and second all-around with a 37.05. Brianna Minervino of Higganum had an event high of 9.5 for first place on vault and was second all-around with a 36.5. Reagan Furgueson of Centerbrook posted a high score of 9.25 for third place on floor and totaled a 36.20 for seventh all-around. Anna Monaco of Essex had an event high of 9.1 on both vault and beam, earning first and second place, respectively, and finished with an all-around of 35.95. Kelly Walsh from Old Saybrook earned a high score of 9.05 on vault and came in ninth all-around with a 35.65. Isabella Giuliano of Deep River earned second place for her score of 9.4 on vault and was ninth all-around with a 35.65. Katrina Tozier of East Haddam earned a high of 9.0 on both vault and beam, eighth place on beam, and totaled a 35.55 all-around. Cate Coppes of Old Saybrook posted a high score of 9.1 for fourth place on vault and was fifth all-around with a 35.5. Haley Young of Ivoryton came in eighth place for her high score of 9.2 on vault and finished with a 35.25 all-around. Together, this group of gymnasts won third place in the team competition.
Ella Gibson of Essex led the Level 7 team with 9s on three out of four events, earning second place for her event high of 9.35 on floor and first place on bars, beam ,and all-around with a 36.55. Chloe Cahill of Lyme came in second place for her high score of 9.15 on bars and finished first on vault and all-around with a 35.775. Quincy Platt of Higganum earned first place for her high vault score of 9.125 and finished third all-around with a 35.3. Kate Ryan of East Haddam came in fifth place for her floor routine score of 9.125, as well as fifth all-around with a 34.775. Haley Smith of Clinton had an event high of 8.725 for third place on bars and finished seventh all-around with a 34.325. Alexandra Batts of Lyme came in third place with an 8.95 on vault and finished 10th all-around with a 33.30.
The Level 6 team was led by Mia Lawrence of East Haddam, who earned second place for her event high of 9.2 on bars and finished third all-around with a 35.9. Maria Denya of Old Lyme had an event high of 9.1 for third place on balance beam and finished with a 34.8 all-around for eighth place. Isabella Carlo of Old Saybrook posted an event high of 9.1 for third place on bars and finished 10th all-around with a 34.0. Brianna Livingston of Killingworth came in sixth place for her event high of 8.6 on vault and totaled a 33.2 all-around.
The Level 4 team had a fantastic meet, earning first place in the team competition. Sarah Cole of Chester led the group with 9s on three out of four events, earning first place for her event high of 9.4 on floor and fourth place all-around with a 36.275. Leah Frantz of Deep River followed close behind with two first-place medals, including one for her event high of 9.775 on beam, and finished fifth all-around with a 35.975. Allyson Viens of Higganum posted a high score of 9.5 for fourth place on balance beam and totaled a 35.85 all-around for sixth place. Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones of Killingworth performed a beautiful beam routine to earn first place with a 9.8 and finished second all-around with a 35.5. Ella Stevens of Old Saybrook posted an event high of 9.225 on balance beam and came in eighth all-around with a 35.15. Emily Smith of Clinton came in second place for her high score of 9.375 on beam, as well as first on bars, floor, and all-around with a 35.125. Erin Ward of Chester posted an event high of 9.1 on balance beam and totaled a 34.85 all-around. Chase Conrad of Ivoryton earned seventh place for her high beam score of 9.375 and finished with a 32.6 all-around.
The Level 3 team was made up of three first-time competitors in Julie Hartt and Coraline Giuillano of Deep River, plus Corina Pagliuco of Ivoryton. Hartt led the team by placing on all four events, with a high of 9.2 for third place on both vault and balance beam, and finished with a 35.1 all-around for third place. Pagliuco had solid scores across the board with an event high of 8.8 on floor and an all-around of 34.35. Giuillano earned fourth place for her high score of 9.4 on vault and finished ninth all-around with a 32.05.
