East Haven Boys’ Hockey Loses Two in OT


John Monaco delivered a perfect pass to Joe Lorello from behind the net to set up East Haven’s first goal in its recent loss against Guilford.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

East Haven took a pair of defeats in overtime last week by losing to both Hand and Guilford in the extra session. The Yellowjackets are now 2-6-2 for the season.

On Jan. 13, Hand and East Haven both scored one goal in the first period and latter netted one apiece in the third to force overtime. Joe Lorello scored the Easties’ first goal, which assisted by John Monaco, and Joe Aloi notched a goal early in the third. Hand’s Reed Berestecky then scored in the overtime period to win it.

On Jan. 16, Guilford won 5-4 in overtime despite a valiant comeback effort by the Yellowjackets. Guilford held a 4-1 lead in the third period before Aloi, Lorello, and Zach Paquin all found the back of the net to send it to OT. Guilford won the game when Stephen Thibault scored in overtime. Matt Twarowski made 26 saves for East Haven, which also saw Paquin score a goal late in the second period to make it 3-1 at the time.

Boys’ Basketball

East Haven has lost five in a row and is currently 2-7 this season.

On Jan. 11, Cross defeated the Yellowjackets 71-47. Conor Reynolds scored 15 points in the defeat.

East Haven then lost to Hamden by a 69-47 final on Jan. 13. East Haven was money from beyond the three-point line by connecting on six treys in the game. Rob Proto led the way with 13 points, plus Reynolds and Nick Durso both scored 12.

East Haven was then defeated by North Haven 62-50 to drop to 0-3 in SCC Oronoque action. Durso scored a game-high 19 points in the loss and Ryan Spano added 13 points.
