01/16/2016 11:00 PMNorth Haven senior athletes Rachel Buonasora and Shane O’Connor were recently chosen as The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for November of 2015.
One of the captains of the Indians’ girls’ swimming and diving squad last fall, Buonasora has been a stellar performer in the classroom. She’s ranked first in a class of 247 students and holds an impressive 4.76 grade-point average. The recipient of the Yale Book Award, Buonasora is a member of the National, English, Latin, and Science honor societies. She is also a member of the Future Problem Solvers and the math team.
“Rachel is the quintessential captain and teammate,” said Head Coach Martha Phelan. “She takes great pride in everything she does.”
A standout in football, indoor track, and outdoor track for the Indians, O’Connor also has an exemplary academic record. Ranked eighth in a class of 247 students, O’Connor sports an excellent 4.54 grade-point average. He is the senior class president and serves as captain of the Indians’ indoor and outdoor track teams.
“Shane is responsible, reliable and honorable,” football coach Anthony Sagnella said. “He unselfishly contributed to our team’s needs and gave everything he had on and off the field.”
