Haddam-Killingworth started its year with an 82-56 loss to Amity on Dec. 22. The Cougars had 10 top-three finishes, which included a third-place performance in the 200 medley relay (with Michael Morman, Will Carlson, Nate Carlson, and Chad Anderegg), third for the 50 freestyle (Connor McLaughlin), third in the 100 butterfly (Anderegg), runner-up in the 100 free (McLaughlin), first in the 500 free (Allison Murphy), tops in the 200 free relay (Anderegg, Jonah Freeman, Morman, and Murphy), first for the 100 backstroke (Morman), first (Carlson) and second (Parker Goodwin) in the 100 breaststroke, and a win in the 400 free relay (Murphy, Anderegg, Carlson, and McLaughlin).
“HK started off their season with a strong showing from each team member. Parker Goodwin swam in the 200 IM for the first time of his high school career. Jonah Freeman stepped in at the last second for a hurting teammate to swim in the 200 free relay,” said Head Coach John MacDonald, HK’s girls’ swimming and diving head coach who is starting his first season piloting the boys. “Connor McLaughlin had two extremely close races in the 50 and 100 free. In each, he lost by not even a second in both events. Chad Anderegg stepped in to swim the 100 fly for a hurting teammate. Allison Murphy took first place in the 500 free to kick off her first dual meet of the season.”
