North Haven Boys’ Ice Hockey Beats Amity in Opener, 6-1

Senior captain forward JJ Jensen had a goal with two assists to help lift the Indians’ boys’ ice hockey squad to a 6-1 win versus Amity in its season opener.

The North Haven boys’ ice hockey team started its season with a 6-1 victory versus Amity at Bennett Rink in West Haven on Dec. 23.

The Indians, who are coached by Mike Silengo in his second year, scored three goals in the first period to take an early command versus the Spartans. The teams traded goals in the second half before North Haven netted a pair in the third period to ice it at 6-1.

Senior captain forward JJ Jensen scored two goals and added an assist for the Indians. Captain Jason St. Peter also scored twice, fellow senior forward Pasquale Liuzzi posted a goal and an assist; plus Josh Back, a senior captain defenseman, helped with two assists to lead the offense. In goal, senior Justin Daddio stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced to pick up the win. North Haven took 35 shots on goal.

“It was nice to get off to a fast start. The team has been working real hard in practice and we were anxious to get started,” said Coach Silengo. “We have a long way to go, but this was a nice win to build upon.”

The Indians’ next game is at New Milford at the Canterbury School at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28.

Last season, North Haven went 9-6-3 with a mark of 5-2-3 in SCC/SWC Division II play for the regular season, followed by a 4-1 loss to Branford in the conference semis and 5-2 defeat against Cheshire in the first round of states.
