08/30/2015 12:00 AMThe Red Sox trio of Dave Steuerwald, Butch Caratunoto, and Ken Fox posted a record of 63-39 to claim the regular season championship in the Deep River Horseshoe League. The Red Sox finished 5.5 games ahead of Braves and Giants, who both went 57.5-44.5, for the top spot. The Braves earned second place by taking five of six from the Giants for the campaign. The Red Sox, Braves, and Giants all qualified for the playoffs, as did the Dodgers (57-45), Pirates (55-47), Cardinals (54-48), Astros (53-49), and Tigers (53-49). The Astros won four of six versus the Tigers to gain the higher seed.
Here’s how the rest of the regular season standings shaped up: Reds (52-50), White Sox (51.5-50.5), Royals (51-51), Orioles (48.5-53.5), Indians (48-54), Yankees (47.5-54.5), Cubs (46.5-55.5), Mets (45-57), Rangers (40-62), and Angels (38-64).
To close out the regular season in Week 17 play, Jim Scully was the top A shooter with his 160, Dave Modine scored a 138, and Ket Bounphakdy posted a 133. Scully (53) and Bounphakdy (52) recorded the top high games for the regulation campaign. Scully also owns the high series at 164 with Bill Strong next in line (148).
For the B Division, Paul Noel was the best B shooter by turning in a 110. He was followed by Dave Tajmajer (109) and David Aldirch (101). Ed Turner and John Sciacca each recorded the best high game for the regular season with a 42. Steuerwald (130) and Victor Peckaitis (125)are tops for high series.
For C shooters, Mike Kennedy had the high score once again with his total of 117. John Hutra was second with a 105 and Bill Brown took third (81). Kennedy (44) and Hutra (41) were first and second, respectively, for high game during the regular season . Kennedy had the best high series at 130 and Hutra was second with a 105.
