On Feb. 21 and 22, Flip-Flop Gymnastics sent several of its squads to the Valentine’s Invitational that was hosted by Farmington Valley Gymnastics.

The Xcel Gold team was led by Genevieve Gellar of Madison, who scored 9s on all four events, placing first for her event high of 9.6 on balance beam, as well as sixth on vault, ninth on bars, and first all-around with a 37.2. Grace Mclaughlin of Old Saybrook scored 9s on three events with a high of 9.5 for first place on vault, as well as fourth on beam, fifth on floor, and fourth all-around with a 36.6. Sierra Cazassa of East Haddam earned first place for her high score of 9.5 on floor, as well as fourth on bars and sixth all-around with a 36.2. Briana Yepes of Higganum came in eighth place for her event high of 9.25 on vault, as well as fifth on beam and seventh all-around with a 35.95. Sarah Tozier of East Haddam had an event high of 9.2 for eighth place on floor and finished with a 35.7 to put her in eighth place all-around. Tammi Welge of Old Saybrook had solid scores throughout with a high of 8.9 on vault and an all-around score of 34.85. Carly Houle of Moodus earned a high score of 9.15 on floor and finished with a 34.15. Carlee Kirla of Deep River had an event high of 9.4 for fourth place on floor and totaled an all-around of 34.1.

The Level 3 team continues to improve and had another fantastic meet, placing third in the team competition. Rebecca Rosenblum-Jones of Killingworth earned fifth place for her high score of 9.4 on floor and finished with a 36.3 all-around for seventh place. Leah Frantz of Deep River had 9s on three out of four events, placed second on vault for her high score of 9.45, and finished with a 36.65 for second place. Ella Stevens of Old Saybrook earned first place for her high score of 9.45 on bars, as well as fourth on vault and finished with an all-around score of 35.95 for third place. Allyson Viens of Higganum had a high score of 9.3 for first place on floor exercise and also finished with an all-around of 35.9 for third place. Ellie Wells of Lyme had an event high of 9.05 on vault and totaled a 35.8 all-around for fifth place. Sydney Scanlon of Clinton came in fourth place for her event high score of 9.25 on vault and totaled a 35.25 all-around for sixth place. Chase Conrad of Ivoryton earned an event high of 9.15 for second place on balance beam, finished with a 35.15 all-around for seventh place, and won judge’s choice for best hair. Molly Andrews of Deep River came in third place for her high score of 9.35 on vault, also earning the Best Block Award, and finished with a 34.95 all-around for eighth place. Erin Ward of Chester had an event high of 9.0 on vault and totaled a 34.75 all-around for 10th place. Violet Lavezzoli of Deep River came in third place for her event high of 9.0 on bars and earned her highest all-around of the season with a 34.6.

Previously on Feb. 8, Flip-Flop Gymnastics Level 4 and 5 teams competed in the Connecticut State Championships.

Level 5 competitor Brianna Livingston of Killingworth came in 10th place for her event high of 8.45 on vault, as well as eighth on bars, seventh on beam, and 10th on floor and all-around with a 33.55. Maria Denya of Old Lyme had strong performances throughout, earning an all-around score of 36.15 for fourth place and became the Connecticut Level 5 state champion on both uneven bars (9.1) and balance beam (9.3). Mia Lawrence of East Haddam earned a high score of 9.15 for third place on balance beam, as well as fourth on bars and third on floor and all-around with a 36.25. Isabella Carlo of Old Saybrook had solid scores throughout with an event high of 8.75 on floor and an all-around of 33.4.
