Boys' Tennis Reaches SCC D-I Semis
The Guilford boys' tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in the SCC Division I Tournament and scored a 7-0 shutout of No. 5 Cheshire in the quarterfinal round on May 27 at home before falling to No. 1 Hand in the semifinal round on May 29, 6-1, at Yale.
Against Cheshire, Luke Lemieux (6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3), Evan Powell (6-0, 6-0), Cameron Charbonneau (6-3, 6-2), Niall Kneerim (6-1, 4-6, 6-4); plus the doubles pairings of Matt Murphy and Joe Boughton (7-6 (7-1), 6-4); Jeffrey Eng and Connor Lemieux (3-6, 6-1, 7-5); along with Milo Roth and Wiley Small (6-0, 6-4) scored wins to help the Indians advance. In the Hand match, the combination of Murphy and Luke Lemieux secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Prior to that, Guilford closed the regular season 16-3 thanks to a 4-3 win over Avon on May 23. Wins came by way of Powell (6-0, 6-1), Charbonneau (6-0, 6-2), plus the tandems of Boughton and Murphy (6-2, 7-5), along with Eng and Connor Lemieux (6-2, 6-1).
