Coward Wins Shot Put at SCC Championship
The East Haven girls’ track and field team finished in 13th place at the SCC Championship on May 27, scoring 31 points. Destiney Coward earned 18 of those points after winning the shot put (40-7 ¼) and placing second in the discus (99-7).
“I never thought of being the SCC Champion last year and I didn’t think I would be, but that just shows that all the hours sacrificed trying to be the best turns into reality of being the best,” Coward said. “I knew I was captable of it, my coaches knew I was capable of it. I stepped into that circle and threw for my personal record.”
Megan Doheny added more throwing points for the Yellowjackets, finishing in sixth place (93-7) in the javelin to score three points.
Sophomore Megan Kikosicki ran the 100 in 13.11 to finish in seventh and score two points, and posted a better effort in the 200 by earning five points (4th, 26.50). The 4x100 team of Annie Coleman, Kikosicki, Briana Wiel, and Cailey Korwek sprinted to a sixth-place finish (50.43) to earn the squad’s final three points.
