Kong Wins Division II Golf Title with All-Time Score

Sophomore Rasmey Kong shot a 67 to claim the individual title at the Division II Golf State Championship on June 10.

Rasmey Kong shot a five-under-par score of 67 at the Division II Golf State Championship at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron on June 10, a score which not only earned the sophomore the individual state title, but also marked the all-time lowest total in the history of Connecticut’s high school state meets that date back to 1931.

Kong birdied the second hole and made par on the other eight through the front nine, putting him at one-under through the halfway mark. He then birdied holes 12, 13, and 14 before bogeying 15, after which Kong came back with another birdie on 16 en route to a final score of 67 that bested runner-up Edward Hill of Watertown by three strokes.

“I just wanted to play simple golf and cruise along without making any big mistakes. When the birdies came, I made them and that’s why I shot a 67,” Kong said. “This just pushes me harder to do even better next year.”

Hand was the team champion at the meet and North Haven shot 358 as a squad to finish in 16th place out of 19 clubs. Indians’ Coach Stephen Feuring talked about how proud he was to see Kong come home with the state crown.

“I’m proud and excited for Rasmey and the exposure that this will get him. It’s pretty incredible stuff from a 15-year old,” Feuring said. “He hit most of the fairways with his drives and also made a lot of his putts.”

Additionally for North Haven, Alec Rizzo shot a 91 to tie for 70th place, Tyler Hines posted a 99 and tied for 86th, Vin Fasulo scored a 101 to finish 91st, and Ben Rollins turned in a 104 and was tied for 94th.
