Horton Hurls No-No as Tigers' Softball Moves to 12-1

While the Tigers’ softball team continued to roll to a 12-1 mark with a 3-0 win over Law on May 1 and another 6-4 triumph at Sacred Heart Academy on May 3, the highlight of the week was a no-hitter tossed by pitcher Annie Horton versus Law.

“It felt pretty good to do it,” said Horton on the feat. “I honestly didn’t know I had it until the end of the game; it just felt like a regular win.”

Having run support in the form of Mel Rennie (triple and an RBI) and Katie Omdahl (hitting 2-for-2), Horton blanked the Eagles with three strikeouts on her no-no day to remember.

“The team and the fans were excited afterwards, but the defense made some good plays,” remarked Horton. “Madeline Yaggi in center made some good catches, plus Sam Pavano made good plays at second base.”

Two days later versus the Pacers, the Tigers were locked in a tight 4-4 game until the top of the seventh, when Omdahl led off with a double, then Rennie knocked in the winning run with another triple. Pavano scored Rennie with a single for insurance. Rennie, Omdahl, and Kate Boudreau each had three hits for Hand.

“I think this year I have done a good job in not giving up too many walks,” Horton remarks on her success in the circles this season. “I am just trying not to throw balls down the middle to give the hitters a chance to hit it, and also I have been staying focused out there. Everyone is very relaxed this year and playing a lot of softball. It takes the pressure off and helps the team a lot.”
