Hand Advances to Class L Semifinals
The Hand football team took one step closer to a state title on Nov. 29 when it knocked off No. 7-seeded Coventry/Windham Tech 35-12 in the state quarterfinals. The Tigers, the No. 2 seed in the Class L State Tournament, improved to 11-0 with the win at the Surf Club, setting up a semifinals match with No. 3-seeded Masuk on Saturday, Dec. 3 at West Haven at 7 p.m.
Senior quarterback Henry Foye threw for 131 yards, finding fellow senior Nick Vitale on a 10-yard strike to give Hand a 6-0 first quarter lead it would never relinquish. The Vitale touchdown started a run of 35-unanswered points as the Tigers easily sailed to a victory.
Foye found junior tight end Kyle Anderson for a 51-yard touchdown, again connected with Vitale on a score from 38 yards out, and a pair of rushing scores by seniors Kevin Frey and Joey Demichele capped off the game's scoring. Frey ended the game with 122 yards on 17 carrie
