06/09/2022 12:01 AMThose who hate to see invasive plants taking over backyards, streets, and local parks will benefit from the information being provided in a workshop being offered at the Acton Public Library, 60 Old Post Road, Old Saybrook, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 18. Attendees will be automatically registered for free door prizes.
Kathy Connolly, a landscape designer, writer, and speaker who emphasizes earth-friendly designs, native plants, and low-impact land care techniques will be the featured speaker. Connolly also is a columnist for Shore Publishing/Zip06.com.
Connolly’s presentation will include the following topics:
What is an invasive plant? Learn about state-listed nonnative plants, nuisance plants, aggressive native plants
Learn how to identify invasive plants, and
Three ways to fight back effectively
How to dispose of plants once removed.
Following the presentation, attendees will take a walk in adjacent parks to see some of the most aggressive invasive plants. This will take place at Old Saybrook’s Vicki Duffy Pavilion at 155 College Street, rain or shine.
The event is free and open to all. Registration is required. For more information, call the Acton Public Library at 860-395-3184 or visit www.actonlibrary.org.
