Nibbles: Asparagus at ShopRite
I like to shop, but clothes shopping (especially during the pandemic) bores me. On the other hand, I love to shop for food. On the shoreline, I will often go to the Big Four (Stop & Shop, Big Y, ShopRite, and Aldi) every week. Last Sunday I drove to ShopRite for some staples since, if I spend $400 before Thanksgiving, I get a free turkey or ham. At the produce aisle saw green and white asparagus for $1.99 a pound (with the supermarket’s card). I bought one of each. I knew they are not local (being November in Connecticut), but, my, were they delicious. I par-boiled the green ones and topped them with butter and salt; I roasted the white ones with extra-virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper and tossed them with some fresh parmesan cheese.—Lee White
