05/27/2021 12:01 AMOn a recent Friday night I went to the First Friday celebration at the Shennecossett Yacht Club. Even though I no longer have a boat, I love their Friday Nights and, as we all know, these, too, never happened in the summer of 2020. I sat with new members and Steve Matzkin, a foodie like me. He brought a jar of Uncle Maynard’s Hot Pepper Relish for his hamburgers. He offered to share it with me and, fearless and frightened nonetheless, I slathered it on. Oh my, it was delicious and not very spicy at all. The sweetness of the fresh peppers and the excellent seasoning balanced out the sting of the spice. Steve says he got the last two bottles at Stop & Shop, but I went online and ordered two bottles. It is gluten-free and fat-free and is made in Waterbury. You can also get it mild.
