Legacy Theatre Seeks Students for a ‘Hamilton’ Singers’ Workshop
The Legacy Theatre in Stony Creek will host a virtual Hamilton workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 2 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Called the most exciting and significant musical of the decade, Hamilton has sparked excitement in young theatergoers since it opened on Broadway.
This workshop (ideal for middle school- to college-aged students) will allow Legacy Theatre participants to interact with Hamilton music director Ian Weinberger, as well as Hamilton cast members. Participants will have the opportunity to be a part of a multi-choir performance of a Hamilton medley. The cost is $95 per participant.
All participants will be given a Hamilton medley as well as a rehearsal track and will be asked to familiarize themselves with their part in advance of the workshop. The Legacy Theatre Hamilton group will meet three times virtually in advance of the workshop to review the medley and materials before the Feb. 2 date.
During the Feb. 2 workshop, Weinberger will give notes and direction to the singers on how to approach the arrangement. He’ll also coach some volunteers who might be interested in performing some of the solo lines in the song. After the workshop, students will record themselves singing the medley, which will be submitted by Feb. 15 to the Hamilton workshop leaders, who will compile all of the recordings in a special multi-choir performance to be returned to share with family, friends, and the community at large.
In addition to the work on the arrangement, the workshop will feature some performances from Hamilton cast members, a short dance section where participants will learn some of the moves from the show, and the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with all of the Hamilton guests.
