Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 14. Some of you have planned ahead. And some have not. For those who have not, it could be a great opportunity to also show some love your for some local business owners who stock unique sweets. Here are some suggestions: Claire’s Corner Copia, 1000 Chapel Street, New Haven, 203-562-3888, has an astounding array of beautiful baked goods. You can’t go wrong with the Lithuanian coffee cake, which often also comes as cupcakes. And Claire’s recently was offering tres leches whoopie pies as well. Three Girls Vegan Creamery, 645 Boston Post Road, Guilford, 203-896-0411, usually has a whole section of its front case stocked with sweets, and was recently offering adorable peanut butter mini cheesecakes. Shayna Bs by the Sea, 247 Main Street, Old Saybrook has cakes, cupcakes, and recently also offered a Snickers knockoff. Finally, here are two places where you can buy pretty much whatever they are offering and you will be rewarded with a smile: The Village Chocolatier, 79 Whitfield Street, Guilford, 203-453-5226. And Hen & Heifer, 23 Water Street, Guilford, 203-689-5651. These are just a few examples, but my point is, don’t forget to check out your town’s main street shops if you want something special! In all cases, if you have something specific you want, call first to make sure it’s in stock. And I hope you have a very Happy Valentine’s Day!
