Final Weekend for Guilford Art League Show

Untitled #1, polymer clay, Aaron Tessler, first prize

The Guilford Art League 72nd annual Juried Exhibition & Sale will run through Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Guilford Art Center’s Mill Gallery, 411 Church Street, Guilford, across Route 77 from the Guilford Police Department.

The exhibition showcases 90 artworks, including oils, watercolors, gouache, pastels, acrylics, collage, mixed media, printmaking, clay, and wood sculpture.

Patricia Miranda, this year’s juror, is an artist, curator and educator who uses interdisciplinary projects to make connections among art, science, history and culture. Her work has been exhibited across the United States.

“The strong quality and diversity of the work was inspiring, from quiet observational naturalism to bold gestural abstraction, from poetic interpretation to wry humor,” she says.

She awarded first prize to Aaron Tessler for a polymer clay piece, Untitled #1; second prize to Edward Bishop for an oil, My Two Sons and Friend; and third prize to Ava Orphanoudakis for a mixed media work, Rising from a Deeper Dimension #2.

There were a number of other cash awards, memorial prizes, gift certificates, and honorable mentions.

The Guilford Art League is actively recruiting new members of any skill level, from beginner to advanced. Members will have the chance to participate in juried and members-only exhibits throughout the year, receive an email newsletter, attend lectures and demonstrations, and be invited to social gatherings as part of a vibrant, like-minded community of artists.
