Celebrating Women and the End of Summer at Susan Powell Gallery

Quiet Ride to Tuxis, oil, 30 x 40 inches, by Kimberly Ruggiero

Women Making Their Mark, an exhibit paying tribute to the long tradition of women who have struggled throughout history to gain recognition, will open Friday, Sept. 4 at Susan Powell Fine Art at 679 Boston Post Road in Madison, with drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the garden Friday, Sept. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. All are welcome to the gallery opening.

While women weren’t mentioned in the early edition of reference books like H.W. Janson’s iconic History of Art, often considered the Bible of art history, they have come a long way since then. These 19 exhibiting artists have garnered numerous awards throughout their careers and many have been included in national shows as well as museum exhibitions. Sixty paintings are on view, including landscape, still life, figurative, and abstract work.

Artists represented include Kathy Anderson, Carol Arnold, Cindy Baron, Stephanie Birdsall, Kelly Birkenruth, Deborah Chabrian, Grace DeVito, Emilia Dubicki, Sandy Garvin, Carol Jenkins, Sarah Lamb, Roxann Leibenhaut, Anne McGrory, Susan Nally, Cora Ogden, Kimberly Ruggiero, Polly Seip, Claudia Seymour, and Sandra Wakeen.

Susan Powell Fine Art is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays and anytime by appointment. For more information, call 203-318-0616, or visit www.susanpowellfineart.com.
