Civil War Campsite Comes Alive in Old Saybrook July 11

Members of Company F, 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, will turn the Old Saybrook Historical Society campus on Main Street into a Civil War campsite on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The living history event features knowledgeable and friendly re-enactors who will display period objects and demonstrate some of the activities of ordinary soldiers and civilians.

The program is sponsored by the historical society as a community event with free admission. This is a return engagement for the Company F, 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, having set up camp at the historical society a few years ago. The group has appeared in numerous towns and is in great demand around the state.

Members come from around the state, as well as Massachusetts, and represent civilian and military personnel. Household objects from the 1860s are displayed and demonstrated along with military maneuvers and the ever popular marching and firing of rifles.

For more information, call the Old Saybrook Historical Society at 860-395-1635. The campus is located at 350 Main Street in Old Saybrook.
