Albert and Barbara Bishop Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary

Barbara and Albert Bishop celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an anniversary dance.

Albert and Barbara Bishop celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June with an anniversary dinner attended by family and close friends, including all of their three siblings: Grace Bishop Russell, Harold Bishop, and Harry Juniver. The Bishops’ four children and their spouses are Keith (Debbie) Bishop and Diane (Peter) van der Grinten of Guilford;Craig (Natalie) Bishop of Biglerville, Pennsylvania; and David (Lynne) Bishop of Bedford, New Hampshire. Many of their 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren were able to join the celebration.

Al and Barb have been very active in community service to Guilford and the First Congregational Church and have hosted dozens of exchange students over the years. Al was born in Guilford, and Barbara in North Branford. They met while at the University of Connecticut and, after graduation, Al served in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany. When they returned in 1956, they built their house adjacent to Bishop’s Orchards, where they still live and are passionate about agriculture.

In honor of their work in the community, an endowed scholarship fund, the Al and Gene Bishop Fund, supports hands-on experiences in the vocational and industrial arts. For more information, visit www.guilfordfoundation.org/legacy-funds/al-gene-bishop-fund/.
