10/02/2012 10:00 AMAbby Elizabeth Carruthers wed Christopher Conrad Wurts on Aug. 18 at the Mystic Arts Center in Mystic. Ernest Adams, J.P., officiated the ceremony, and a handfasting Ceremony was performed by Nancy Bailey, aunt and godmother of the bride, and Bill Scheniman, step-father of the groom. A dinner reception and dancing followed the ceremony.
The bride was escorted by her parents, Lisa and Mark Carruthers of Old Saybrook, and the groom was escorted by his parents, Suzanne Niles of Homosassa, Florida, and Jay Wurts of Concord, Massachusetts. Emily Carruthers, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Ellen Bailey, cousin of the bride, and Melissa Miller and Kyley McGeeney, friends of the bride.
Jesse Smithnosky, friend of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Bill Wurts, brother of the groom, and Seth Tardiff and Darren Stanley, friends of the groom. The groom’s brothers, Alex and Taylor Wurts, were ushers.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Old Saybrook High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a master’s degree from University College, London, U.K. She is employed as a research analyst at McKinsey and Company in Washington, D.C.
The groom is a 2000 graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School in Concord, Massachusetts. He is a 2004 graduate of MIT and is employed as a software engineer at Argon ST, Inc., in Fairfax, Virginia.
After a wedding brunch on Sunday at the home of the bride’s parents, the couple left on a 3-month, 14-country, around-the-world honeymoon.
