Dean's List

• Susquehanna University: Kyler Equi, a junior business major from Madison Equi and the son of Robert and Elizabeth Equi.
• University of Connecticut: Julia Drouin and Erica Mastronardi both of Madison. Mastronardi was also named a New England Scholar for 2011.
• Villanova University: Rachel Rossini of Madison.
• Washington University: Jacob William Gordon of Madison.
• Worcester Polytechnic Institute: Timothy Forrest of Madison, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering.
Service Awards and Recognitions
• Patrol Officer Kimberly Lauria and Patrol Officer Jeremy Yorke of the Madison Police Department were among those police officers and troopers from around the state of Connecticut who were honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving at the 25th Annual MADD Connecticut Law Enforcement Recognition Ceremony, held at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven. The awards were presented to officers who made great achievements in the areas of enforcement, education, community involvement, training, underage drinking or volunteering with MADD.
• In honor of National Volunteer Week in April, the Hospital of Saint Raphael recognized hundreds of volunteers, including Bea Fiorino (500 hours) of Madison Carol Hauburger of Killingworth (500 hours).
• Betty Sousa of Madison was one of more than 50 volunteers recognized at the American Cancer Society in Rocky Hill in December during the organization's annual Road to Recovery Driver Breakfast.
Career Achievements
• Killingworth author and Killingworth Library Children's Librarian Gayle Byrne won the Association for Gerontology's award for Best Children's Literature on Aging for Sometimes It's Grandmas and Grandpas, Not Mommies And Daddies.
• Jacqueline Connell, a member of the Madison Garden Club, was installed as first vice president of The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut.
Acts of Community Service and Charitable Contributions
• Abby Blundon of Madison, a student at Quinnipiac University and a public relations intern with the National MS Society's Connecticut Chapter, helped to establish a Walk MS team, recruiting sisters from her Alpha Delta Pi sorority to take part in the walk on
April 22.
• Erin Hutchinson, a junior at Haddam-Killingworth High School, organized the Special Occasion Fashion Show, a clothing drive that collected more than 700 special-occasion garments for the Clinton Shoreline Food Pantry.
• Elizabeth Dock Early of Madison and her daughter Liz Early, a senior at the Williams School in New London, traveled to Nepal this summer and volunteered at an orphanage for three weeks. The orphanage, the Nepal Orphans Home (NOH), was founded by Early's cousin, Michael Hess.
• Pat Fay of Madison was one of 192 representatives of sponsor groups or individuals who participated in the Operation Gift Cards for Our Wounded Troops program.
• Polson student Ilana Foggle collected school supplies for students in Nicaragua after visiting the school in November, 2011.
• Peter Gladstone, a junior from Madison, traveled to Joplin, Missouri with fellow Marquette University students for a week-long service trip to volunteer with tornado relief efforts.
• Jill Nesi of Madison is recording a CD for the Starlight Children's Foundation with students from local public schools singing background vocals.
• Nicholas Norwitz, a sophomore at Daniel Hand High School who broke the school record for push ups during his freshman-year fitness exam, used the test to raise money for Ikamva Labantu this year, doing 344 push ups in one 18-minute set and raising $1,710 for the charity.
• Eileen Regan was recognized for 40 years of service as a paraprofessional to the Madison Public Schools during a convocation ceremony held earlier this academic year.
