St. Lawrence Church Welcomes New Pastor; Dedicates New Stations of the Cross
St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Killingworth recently welcomed a new pastor, Reverend Joseph DeCosta. A native of Fall River, Massachusetts, Father DeCosta was ordained on Nov. 17, 1990 and served in four parishes, most recently as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Gales Ferry for the past 12½ years.
This past February, Father DeCosta dedicated 14 new Stations of the Cross, which were carved in wood by parishioners at St. Lawrence. Ten parishioners began carving the Stations in 2008 and finished in November 2010. Parishioner Gloria Nilsson designed the artwork for the Stations and Deacon Bob Ferraro, a woodworker by profession, constructed the frames. Six parishioners painted the Stations. According to Hill, carvers added a 15th Station for the Resurrection and the 16th is the carved prayers said with the Stations of the Cross.
