The Morgan girls’ soccer team hit the pitch to play road games against Haddam-Killingworth and East Lyme last week. The Huskies came away from the week with a split after defeating H-K and then taking a loss to East Lyme to put their overall record at 6-2-1 on the year.
Morgan kicked off last week’s action by claiming a 2-0 win at Haddam-Killingworth in a Shoreline Conference contest on Oct. 6. Sophomore Rachel Spaziano scored the first goal of the game on an assist from senior Eve Gardner in the 39th minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead at halftime. Freshman Sadie Passante scored from junior Glenda Zhiminaciela in the 41st minute to increase Morgan’s lead to 2-0. Junior goalie Samantha Way made 4 saves in net to get the shutout for the Huskies.
Two days later, the Huskies played a road game versus non-conference opponent East Lyme and took an 8-3 defeat to the Vikings. East Lyme held a 4-3 halftime lead before scoring 4 goals in the second half to pull away for the win. Junior Maeve Madura scored 2 goals and had 1 assist for Morgan. Senior Caeley Ayer scored the other goal for the Huskies, while Gardner and Zhiminaciela each had an assist.
Morgan is playing three more away games this week. The Huskies are on the road to face Plainfield on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon; Valley Regional on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.; and Old Lyme on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3:45 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer
The Morgan boys’ soccer team earned a tie and a took a loss between a pair of games last week and is now sporting an overall record of 7-3-1 this season. The Huskies took a loss against Old Saybrook and then came back to get a draw versus East Lyme in last week’s contests.
On Oct. 4, Morgan hosted Old Saybrook and was edged out by a 2-1 score at the Indian River Complex. The Huskies grabbed a 1-0 lead when freshman Jonny Gutierrez scored a goal on an assist from senior Sebastian Kadlof in the 20th minute of the matchup. Old Saybrook tied the game with a goal in the 29th minute and then went up 2-1 by netting a goal in the 45th minute. Junior Jack Bousquet and freshman Liam Totten combined to make 7 saves in net for Morgan in the game.
Morgan returned to the field for a home game with East Lyme on Oct. 8 and battled the Vikings to a 2-2 tie in non-conference action.
Morgan is on the road to face Hale-Ray on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. After that, the Huskies are host Haddam-Killingworth on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and will then play a home game against Valley Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Morgan girls’ volleyball team notched a pair of five-set wins last week to improve its overall record to 5-6 on the season. The Huskies won five-setters against Old Lyme and North Branford in recent action and have now claimed victory in four of their last five matches overall.
Morgan kicked off last week by claiming a 3-2 road victory versus Old Lyme on Oct. 3. The following day, the Huskies hosted North Branford and edged out the Thunderbirds by a 3-2 final at the Morgan School.
The Huskies are hosting Hale-Ray on Friday, Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Morgan will go on to play a road match versus Coginchaug on Monday, Oct. 17, followed by a home matchup against Cromwell on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Field Hockey
The Morgan field hockey team hosted a pair of matchups at the Indian River Complex last week and took two defeats to move to 1-7-0-1 this season. The Huskies took losses against Valley Regional and Haddam-Killingworth in last week’s games.
On Oct. 3, Morgan played a home game versus Valley Regional and took a 3-2 defeat to the Warriors. The Huskies went on to host Haddam-Killingworth on Oct. 7 and dropped a 4-0 decision in the matchup.
Morgan is playing a road game against the Westbrook-Old Lyme co-op team at Westbrook High School on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. After that, the Huskies will be back on the road to face Fitch on Monday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m., followed by a road contest versus East Catholic on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 3:45 p.m.
Football
The Morgan football team hosted Rockville for a matchup at the Peters Complex on Oct. 7. The Huskies took a 54-14 defeat against the Rams to put their overall record at 1-4 on the season.
Rockville scored 2 touchdowns in the first quarter and then added 3 touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 34-0 halftime lead over Morgan. The Huskies got on the board in the third quarter when junior Tyler Baldwin threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to senior Seamus Stauton. Later in the period. Baldwin found junior John Nye on a 5-yard TD pass for the Huskies’ second score of the night.
Morgan is on the bye for this week. The Huskies’ next game is a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division contest versus Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton (1-4, 1-2) at Coginchaug High School on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
