Branford Police Investigation Leads to Arrest for 2021 Bank Robbery
An East Haven man has been arrested and charged in connection with an October 2021 bank robbery in Branford.
On July 20, the Branford Police Department reported the arrest of Jason Gardner, 34, of East Haven. Gardner was charged with robbery in the second degree and larceny in the second degree.
Gardner was arrested on a warrant, following an extensive investigation, led by Branford police detectives, into an Oct. 15, 2021 robbery at Liberty Bank, 445 West Main St., Branford.
The warrant was served at New Haven Superior Court on July 20. Gardner was given a court set bond of $100,000 and was in the custody of CT Dept. of Corrections.
On Oct. 15, 2021, Branford police announced an investigation into the crime was underway, after police responded to an alarm at the bank at 10:40 a.m. Bank officials reported to police that a White or Hispanic male, wearing a blue facial mask, sunglasses, and a tan fedora hat, handed bank tellers a note demanding money and not to activate the alarm. After tellers handed over an undetermined amount of cash, the male fled the bank and was last seen exiting in a car.
Branford Police Department used its Facebook to notify the public of the incident and seek help with identifying the suspect. Police shared bank video surveillance images, descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle.
