Helping Veterans entering the Job Market – Boots to Suits 2015
The Knights of Columbus Council 5780 at St Margaret Church in Madison CT, led by Mike Piccione and Bob Barrett and supported by Fr. Dan McLearen and numerous council members held a collection drive for Dress attire to help our returning Men And Women Veterans in need for Job Interviews the weekend of November 7 & 8. The group was completely overwhelmed by the support of the citizens of Madison and Guilford, especially parishioners of St Margaret and St George (Guilford) Churches.
As a result of this unbelievable generosity, the team was able to deliver a completely packed 26’ U-Haul truck of Business Suites, Dresses, Dress Shoes, Belts, Shirts, Ties and Overcoats to Save-A-Suite Foundation in Bethel CT on Veterans Day. In addition to thanking the many citizens who reached into their closets, they also want to thank Spot Light Cleaners of Madison for providing plastic bags and hangers for the donations, D & M Storage in Clinton, CT who donated the U-Haul truck for delivery, and the many youth volunteers from the St Margaret parish who helped.
Save-A-Suit Foundation was founded by Scott Sokolowski in 2010, after interviewing a veteran job candidate when the candidate responded to the question “Why aren’t you wearing a suit today?” with “I can’t afford one.” Scott, a veteran himself, decided to invest in an organization that would be dedicated to helping needy veterans find professional business attire to help them prepare for job interviews
The KofC council in Madison has run and supported a number of patriotic programs benefiting our active duty and veteran military personnel. They include: Operation American Soldier, Operation Music Aid and Quilts of Valor.
A number of council members also belong to KofC Assembly 2459 in New Haven.
