Looking to support a great cause and get in a round of golf with friends at the same time? The Old Saybrook based Connecticut Cancer Foundation (CCF) will host its 2022 John Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 26. Reservations and sponsorship opportunities are still available.

The tournament will be held at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton. Jane Ellis the CCF President & Executive Director said that reservations to play in the tournament are still available, but are filling up fast. Those interested in registering as a foursome or individually or to purchase tickets to the dinner after the tournament should visit.CCFGolfAgainstCancer.org.

The day will feature brunch, a noon tee off, a cocktail hour, and dinner. According to a press release, besides the gold tournament there will also be competitions such as longest drive, casino hold, $1M shootout, and hole in one competition. Following the tournament, an awards dinner, silent and live auctions will be held. Additionally, there will be celebrity guests joining in the festivities including Steve Phillips, former NFL pro bowl tight end Jordan Reed and stand-up comedian Tara Cannistraci will perform observational comedy during the dinner hour.

Ellis said that some of the items auctioned off include tickets to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, a celebrity dinner at Mohegan Sun, and reservations at Rao’s in New York City.

“There’s some really exciting items to bid on,” said Ellis.

Per a press release from CCF, “CCF was founded in 1987 by Connecticut native John Ellis, a former catcher for the NY Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers who recently lost his battle to cancer, thus the tournament has been renamed in his honor. CCF has granted over $7.4 million to more than 9,000 CT families dealing with the financial hardship caused by a cancer diagnosis.” The organization is based at 15 North Main Street in Old Saybrook.

Ellis said that the money raised will benefit important research being done at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

“It’s a really important cause and we’re really pleased we’ve been able to do this again. John lost his battle in April so we renamed the tournament in his honor and we really want to make this the most successful one yet,” said Ellis.

Ellis said that 2022 marks the third year the organization has held the tournament and it quickly has become quite popular. “We sell out and it’s at a wonderful country club. We’re so fortunate too we’ve had good weather. It’s a great way to spend a fun day,” said Ellis.
