Westbrook’s Soccer Teams Get Wins Versus the T-Birds; Field Hockey Squad Plays Valley to a Tie
Boys’ Soccer
The Westbrook boys’ soccer squad was on the road for both of last week’s matchups. The Knights lost a contest against Cromwell and then posted a shutout over North Branford for an overall mark of 1-2 this fall.
In its first game of the week, Westbrook dropped a 3-0 decision to Cromwell in a home game on Sept. 12. Then on Sept. 16, the Knights were back on the road to face North Branford and blanked the Thunderbirds by a 4-0 score.
Junior Elliot Koplas, junior John Heringer, junior Jack Ford, and freshman Andre DeSusa all scored 1 goal for Westbrook in its win over North Branford. Junior Derick Novillo and junior Jonathan Bermeo both contributed an assist. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Engles made 2 saves for the shutout.
Girls’ Soccer
The Westbrook girls’ soccer team had two home games on last week’s slate. Westbrook took a defeat versus Cromwell before earning a win versus North Branford/Hale-Ray to move to 1-2 this season.
The Knights took a 7-0 home loss to Cromwell on Sept. 12. Then on Sept. 15, Westbrook hosted the North Branford/Hale-Ray co-op team and notched a 3-1 victory over the Thunderbirds.
Sophomore Lillian Freeman netted a goal on a penalty kick and also had an assist for Westbrook in its win over North Branford/Hale-Ray. Senior Adriana Stranieri and sophomore Giovanna Silva scored the other goals for the Knights.
Field Hockey
The Westbrook-Old Lyme field hockey team played a pair of home games last week. The Knights took a loss against Old Saybrook and then earned a tie with Valley Regional to put their overall record at 1-2-1 on the year.
On Sept. 14, W-OL hosted Old Saybrook and lost to the Rams by a 1-0 score. Two days later, the Knights faced Valley Regional at home and played the Warriors to a 0-0 stalemate. Junior goalie Abby Demers made 7 saves in net for the Knights.
