Branford Residents in Murder-Suicide: Westherfield Police
A 21-year-old female Branford resident was fatally shot on August 27 by a 59-year-old Branford man, who then committed suicide at the scene on Saturday, August 27, according to Wethersfield police.
In a press release issued Monday, August 29, as a follow up to an initial report, Wethersfield police identified the deceased as Caroline Anne Ashworth, 21, of Branford and Michael Mollow, 59, of Branford.
Mollow, a dentist, was a member of the North Branford Dental Group, which posted a note at its Facebook page at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 regarding his death. The post read, in part, “It is with a sad and heavy heart that we are announcing the tragic loss of Dr. Michael Mollow."
Wethersfield police said the decedents were located during the evening hours of Saturday, August 27, at a car parked on Laurel Drive in that town, after 911 calls to police came in at approximately 9:28 p.m. reporting the sound of gunshots in the area of 74 Mountain Laurel Drive.
Ashworth was found deceased in the front driver seat of the car, with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso and extremities, according to police.
Mollow was located outside by the driver's door with a gunshot wound to the chest and head, according to police.
In a statement issued with the press release, Wethersfield police noted, “Investigation revealed that Mollow and Ashworth had been in a previous domestic relationship. Based on determined cause of death, this case continues to be investigated as a murder-suicide. At this time, the motive for the shooting is undetermined."
