EHFD Ladies Auxiliary Launches ‘First Night’ Program
When members of the East Haven Fire Department Volunteer Company 1 respond to a scene, the response includes the Ladies Auxiliary. Often, the Auxiliary sets up directly on the scene and provides water, coffee, and other relief items for emergency responders.
“But we want to do more,” Auxiliary President Kristin Iovene said. “We want to be able to be a resource for those individuals who are victims of these emergency events.”
In an effort to expand their commitment to the community, the Auxiliary is rolling out “First Night” response kits for victims of tragic events including house fires and plane crashes. When tragedy strikes, the first night can be one of the hardest for victims who are suddenly without their homes, and the kits can help provide items of need and comfort. They’re expected to include a variety of personal care items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, and more.
“We are hoping that individuals and local businesses will be willing to contribute samples, personal care items, or monetary donations to help us continue with our First Night efforts,” Iovene said. “Additionally, if anyone is interested in setting up a collection box at their business location, or partnering with us to hold a collection drive, we would love to collaborate with our community.”
Donations of personal hygiene items may be brought to Ladies Auxiliar tent at the East Haven Fall Festival Friday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 11.
