East Haven’s D.C. Moore School Will Close
Citing the continuing trend of declining enrollment in town, the East Haven Board of Education approved a 2016-’17 budget that will close the D.C. Moore School at the end of the current school year.
The Board of Education approved a $48.7 million budget for fiscal year 2016-’17 on Jan. 25. The budget is still $1.6 million higher than the current $47.1 million allotment for education costs in the town.
The closing of the school will mean students currently enrolled will be reallocated to other schools throughout town. That won’t be a problem, officials said, since school population continues to decline. The D.C. Moore closure is the first impact of a planned redistricting that will affect all East Haven public schools.
