Foote Park's New Pollinator Garden to be Dedicated to Branford Soldiers Nov. 7
On Sunday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m., a plaque commemorating Branford soldiers who have served in the Armed Services and the sacrifices they made for their country will be installed during a public dedication at the new pollinator garden in Foote Memorial Park. Information shared by Branford Parks and Recreation noted the garden is being dedicated to Branford's "common soldier."
The plaque reads, in part, "These brave soldiers are the embodiment of our Branford community which they so loved and called their home."
The public is encouraged to join representatives of the Town of Branford, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12106 and American Legion Post 83 at 11 a.m. Nov. 7 for the garden dedication ceremony at Foote Park on Melrose Ave. Stony Creek Fife & Drum Corps will provide musical accompaniment.
The new garden joins a growing pollinator pathway effort in Branford and throughout the state which seeks to create a corridor of native plantings providing habitat and nutrition for bees, birds, butterflies and other important pollinators and fauna. It was recently installed in a meditative area backed by trees along Foote Park's walking path. The garden was designed by Branford Public Works supervisor Gary Zielinski and built by public works with assistance from Branford Parks and Recreation.
Together with the Town of Branford, the families Ed and Carol Zack, Sr. and Gary Zielinski contributed to the creation of the garden and its commemorative plaque.
