Dining for a Cause: Patriotic Dinner Returns Nov. 11 in Guilford
The 15th annual Lasagna/Patriotic Dinner will be held on Veteran’s Day, Friday, Nov. 11 to recognize veterans and benefit Guilford Meals on Wheels.
The event, hosted by the Guilford Parks & Recreation Department with the support of the Guilford Interfaith Volunteers (GIV), will be held at the Community Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m. GIV Director Joann Carson said the big hit of the night will be Larry Sanamaria’s lasagna.
“Last year we had 52 veterans,” she said. “Everybody loves [Santamaria’s] lasagna and then there are door prizes at the end, so that is always fun.”
The night will include an honor guard by the American Legion and kids from the Pilgrim Fellowship from the First Church on the Green will be on hand to serve according to Carson.
The cost to attend is $13, though veterans can attend free if they RSVP by Monday, Nov. 7. The event raises about $1,000 each year, according to Carson, and all proceeds go to Guilford Meals on Wheels.
“We have 85 volunteers. Last year they drove 19,000 miles to deliver almost 25,000 meals,” Carson said of the Meals on Wheels program.
Meals on Wheels serves 188 clients in Guilford who get a hot meal delivered Monday through Friday and, if desired, frozen weekend meals delivered on Friday as well.
The Patriotic Dinner will be held Friday, Nov. 11 from 5 to 6:30 at the Community Center, 32 Church Street. Tickets are $13 for adults and $6 for children under 10. Tickets are available at the Guilford Park & Recreation office or at the door.
