First, immediate donations will support Haiti Relief Committee in Rotary District 4060 in the Dominican Republic to assist the short-term needs of the Haitian people. These funds will be used to purchase medicines, food and emergency supplies, which will be transported from the Dominican Republic to Haiti. The Rotary International will meet again in mid-February to asses if there is still a need for short-term funding.
Other organizations receiving funding have strong rotary connections like Shelter Box, which as already provided 3,000 tents to the homeless in Port-au-Prince. Also, the Madison Rotary is collecting funds to be sent to the Haitian Health Foundation which is supporting refugees from Port-au-Prince.
