Arthur W. Donkin, 84, Guilford
Arthur Wilfred Donkin, 84, of Guilford, died peacefully on June 19. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1929, Arthur earned an undergraduate degree in engineering with a specialty in metallurgy from the University of Michigan as well as an MBA from Rutgers University. He served as a commissioned officer of the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955.
Arthur had a lifelong passion for the water and his sailing days began on Lake Erie before he moved to Connecticut. He enjoyed sailing on Long Island Sound to Block Island to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and exploring the coastal waters of Maine. He was a member of the Essex Yacht Club.
Arthur worked as a consultant for more than 50 years. He also served as a lecturer in accounting and finance at the University of New Haven, a finance instructor at the University of Phoenix, and volunteered at Guilford Public Television.
Arthur is survived by his four children Jean Elizabeth, Steven, Sallie, and Andrew; his grandson John L. Biehn IV; and his siblings Tom and Joan, and former wife Margot.
A private family ceremony will be held in July.
