Police: Three Deceased Victims Located at Scene of Branford One-Vehicle Crash
Branford Police Department (BPD) has reported locating three deceased individuals at the scene of a one-vehicle crash in which speed "appears to be a factor." The crashed vehicle was reported by a passing motorist at 6:35 a.m. on Thursday, April 28. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
According to information released by Branford Police, an early morning report of the crash came in as a call to the Branford Emergency Communications Center from a passing motorist on Hosley Avenue. Police said the motorist observed a vehicle which appeared to have crashed off the roadway. The caller did not observe the crash happen.
BPD stated the department was "deeply saddened" report the three deceased individuals were located at the scene when Branford Police and Fire Departments responded.
As of approximately 2 p.m. on April 28, BPD shared the South Central Regional Traffic Team is actively investigating the crash, with that investigation "in the beginning stages of what will be an in-depth and lengthy investigation." Police also noted the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working alongside officers to identify the victims and make notifications to the next of kin.
"We recognize the impact a loss of this magnitude will have on families, friends and our community now and in the future," BPD shared, in a notice posted at the department's Facebook page. Members of the Branford Police and Fire Departments and the First Selectman's Office extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of those involved."
