New Residential Project Breaks Ground in Old Saybrook
Demolition of the old Executive Inn motel on Old Saybrook’s North Main Street and work to clear the 10.78 acre site of trees and brush to prepare for the next construction phase has begun.
What will soon rise on the site are the buildings of the new residential rental development to be known as Post and Main. The residential project will have 186 one- and two-bedroom apartments in several three-story buildings. Twenty percent of the rental apartments will be deed-restricted as affordable since the development is in a town-designated Incentive Housing Zone (IHZ).
The new development is across North Main Street from the Old Saybrook Train Station and shares the northern lot line with the State Department of Transportation’s new train station parking lot. The lot with 199 vehicle parking spaces was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.
The Zoning Commission approved the Post and Main site plan submitted by project developer Eastpointe LLC in April 2015. The rental units soon to be under construction could be ready for occupancy by summer 2017.
