Beth Chandler Keynotes MLK Breakfast
Beth Chandler is coming home. She has accepted the invitation to be the speaker at the Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Breakfast in Branford on the MLK Holiday, Monday, Jan. 21 at 8:30 a.m. This year, the event has been moved to Branford High School (BHS) to accommodate the large number of guests expected.
Chandler graduated as president of the BHS Class of 1984 and excelled in basketball and volleyball while at BHS. Her love of basketball led her to Harvard, where she captained the basketball team during her last two years at the school. After leading her team to the Ivy League title twice, she graduated with honors, majoring in economics. After graduation, Chandler played professional basketball for two years in Austria. Her next job was in Washington, D.C., as a research evaluation analyst with The Urban Institute. She also worked as a corporate banking associate with Bank of America. In between, she earned an MBA in finance and management at Columbia Business School.
She has worked in the nonprofit sector for the past 20 years. She served as the deputy director of the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation and manager of national business development for Neighborworks America. In 2012, Chandler joined the YWCA team in Boston, currently as president and CEO of YWCA Boston.

The 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast takes place Monday, Jan. 21, at 8:30 a.m. at Branford High School, 185 East Main Street. For tickets ($10 adults; $5 children ages 5 to 12), call 203-467-9180. Ticket sales proceeds benefit Food Bank and Fuel for the Elderly programs.
