Memorial Day Observances in Clinton, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook
Old Saybrook
The Town of Old Saybrook holds its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30. Assembly for a Dockside Naval Ceremony is at 8:45 a.m. at the Saybrook Point Pavilion parking lot and a Wreath Laying Ceremony on the Connecticut River is at 9 a.m. The parade assembly is at 9:30 a.m. at the Stop & Shop parking lot. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Elm Street and will go across Route 1 to Main Street to the Veterans Memorial Monuments on the Town Green, where a Memorial Program will be conducted. Weather permitting, military flyovers are scheduled during the parade. Those marching or riding in the Memorial Day Parade are reminded to not throw candies or novelties to anyone on either side of the parade route. Westbrook
Westbrook’s Memorial Day Parade steps off on Monday, May 30 at 10 a.m. rain or shine from behind the Westbrook Firehouse from the Ted Lane Field parking lot. The parade marches to South Main Cemetery for a ceremony, then to Clark’s Bridge (on Old Clinton Road) over Patchogue River for a ceremony on the river and the adjacent cemetery. The procession then marches to the Town Green for a choral sing, the playing of “Taps,” and a ceremony. Marchers are invited back to the firehouse for a final ceremony.
Clinton
This year Clinton has been selected as a Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partner. As such, VFW All-American Post # 9918 Clinton will honor all Vietnam and Vietnam-Era Veterans during the ceremonies on Monday, May 30.
Ceremonies will be conducted at the following locations:
8:55 a.m. Beaverbrook Cemetery, Route 145
9:15 a.m. Clinton Police Department
9:30 a.m. Catholic Cemetery, Beach Park Road
10:00 a.m. War Monument in front of Town Hall
10:10 a.m. Indian River Cemetery
10:30 a.m. March to Indian River Bridge
10:45 a.m. March to Veterans Walk
Formation of the main parade at Post Office Square and parking lots is at 10:50 a.m. The Main Parade proceeds east on East Main Street to the Town Green at 11 a.m.
