Westbrook Girls’ Soccer Drops a Few
The Westbrook girls’ soccer team lost at home 7-0 to Old Lyme, the defending Shoreline Conference champions, on Sept. 21. The Wildcats were firing on all cylinders and played what was nearly a perfect game. Knights’ sophomores Olivia Fabrizi and Alyssa Esposito played very well by giving their team all they had at a number of different positions.
Then on Sept. 25, Westbrook lost 4-1 to North Branford. Westbrook played well the first half and only trailed 1-0. Sophomore midfielder Hayden Davis excelled offensively for the Knights, while their sophomore goalkeeper, Lexi Vumback, made some very difficult saves in traffic. During the second half, the Thunderbirds raced out to score four goals. The Knights managed to finish strong and score, though. Sophomore midfielder Erin Metcalfe dribbled out of the North Branford defense and was fouled in the box for a penalty kick. She placed the penalty kick just inside the post for a goal. The improving Knights now stand at 0-5.
