Barbara Harrison Callachan, 87, North Branford, formerly of Pine Orchard and Naples, Florida
Barbara Harrison Callachan, 87, of Evergreen Woods, North Branford, formerly of Pine Orchard and Naples, Florida, died peacefully on Feb. 21, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of 57 years to the late John Ewing Callachan. Mrs. Callachan was born in Branford on Nov. 10, 1925, daughter of the late Herbert and Pauline Harrison. She was a graduate of Branford High School and the University of Connecticut, where she became a lifelong member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She had been an administrative assistant to the chief of surgery at the Yale School of Medicine and was a substitute teacher in the Branford school system. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Branford and was also a member of the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club. Mrs. Callachan cherished her family and friends, enjoyed donating her time and energy to her community, and she was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Her family thanks the staff at Evergreen Woods for their extraordinary compassion and care.
Mrs. Callachan is survived by her daughters, Sharon Drakos and her husband John of Branford and Cynthia Callachan Ewing, also of Branford; a son, John Harrison Callachan and his wife Sue of North Branford; and six grandchildren, Robyn, Joe, and Alix Bornstein, and Katie, Laura, and Julie Callachan. In addition, she is survived by her dear sister Anne and brother-in-law Bob Hadley, as well as her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Jeanette Townsend.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the First Congregational Church of Branford.
