Mullins Throws No-Hitter for North Branford; Golf Team Has Another Big Week
Softball
The North Branford softball team hit the field to play three games last week and came away with three wins to improve to their record to 12-5 on the campaign. The T-Birds defeated Valley Regional, Old Saybrook, and Fitch in recent action.
The Thunderbirds opened up the week by claiming a 5-1 victory at Valley Regional on May 9. Sophomore Kiley Mullins pitched a no-hitter to lead North Branford to the win, striking out 7 batters in the game. Freshman Lexi Falcioni turned in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate for the T-Birds.
North Branford went on to defeat Old Saybrook by a 21-7 score in 5 innings in a home game on May 12. Two days later, the T-Birds hosted Fitch and posted a 5-2 win over the Falcons.
Baseball
The North Branford baseball team emerged victorious from all three of its three games last week and is now sporting a record of 11-7 for the spring season.
On May 9, North Branford played a road game versus East Hampton and blanked the Bellringers by the score of 3-0. Three days later, the Thunderbirds hosted Morgan and posted a 1-0 shutout over the Huskies. North Branford wrapped up its week by claiming a 6-2 home victory versus Putnam on May 14.
Boys’ Golf
The North Branford boys’ golf team improved to 8-1-2 by posting victories in both of last week’s matchups.
North Branford claimed a 189-211 home win over Coginchaug at Indian Springs Golf Course on May 10. Sophomore Jack O’Brien recorded the T-Birds’ low score of the day with a 43. Senior Blake Pearson shot a 47, freshman Robert Cappella finished with a 48, and seniors Jalen Rossicone and Dakota Cooper both carded a 51.
The following afternoon, the Thunderbirds faced Old Lyme on the road and defeated the Wildcats by a 171-187 score. Cooper earned medalist distinction for the match with a low total of 37 on the day. O’Brien carded a 42, while Cappella shot a 43 for North Branford. Pearson finished with a 49, and junior Drew Girardi scored a 50.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The North Branford girls’ lacrosse team improved its record to 10-4 after scoring victories in a pair of recent home games.
The Thunderbirds began their week by earning a 17-9 home win against Cromwell on May 9. Two days later, North Branford hosted Old Lyme and bested the Wildcats by the tally of 16-10.
Boys’ Lacrosse
The North Branford boys’ lacrosse team gained a split of two recent games and is now sporting a record of 7-7 this season.
In its first game of the week, North Branford took a 16-7 road loss to Old Lyme on May 10. Two days later, the Thunderbirds hosted Morgan and defeated the Huskies by a 12-10 score at Colafati Field.
Girls’ Tennis
The North Branford girls’ tennis team took five home losses last week to move to 3-11 on the season.
On May 9, the T-Birds took a 7-0 home loss against Stonington. Two days later, North Branford hosted Westbrook and lost to the Knights by a 7-0 score. North Branford went on to take a 4-3 home loss to East Hampton on May 13. The T-Birds finished their week by playing two matches with Cromwell at North Branford High School on May 14. North Branford took a 6-1 loss in the first match and then dropped a 6-1 decision in the second contest.
