Kropiwnicki Places 11th for Branford at CIAC Decathlon; Jackson Competes in Heptathlon
Boys’ Outdoor Track
Junior Ryder Kropiwnicki represented the Branford boys’ outdoor track team when he competed in the CIAC Decathlon last week. Kropiwnicki finished in 11th place among 50 competitors in the decathlon by scoring a total of 5,052 points between his 10 events at Willow Brook Park on June 14 and 15.
Kropiwincki’s best performance came with a second-place finish in the pole vault at the CIAC Decathlon. Kropiwnicki cleared the bar at 11 feet-11.75 inches on his way to taking second place in the event. Kropiwnicki had recently finished first in the pole vault at the SCC East Sectional Championship after which he finished third at the SCC Championship (11-0), third in the Class MM State Championship (11-6), and 12th at the State Open (11-6).
Kropiwnicki also finished fifth in the javelin at the decathlon by posting a throw of 142 feet-1 inch on behalf of the Hornets. Kropiwnicki had previously finished fifth in the javelin at sectionals (141-5), seventh in SCCs (144-0), and 14th at states (129-3).
Kropiwnicki finished 12th in both the discus (91-7) and the 100-meter dash (11.56) at the CIAC Decathlon. Kropiwnicki also finished 14th in the 110 hurdles (17.57), 19th for the shot put (33-3), and 26th in the long jump (17-11.75). The junior additionally finished 29th in the high jump (5-2.25), 30th in the 1,500 (5:34.79), and 33rd in the 400 (57.15) for Branford.
Girls’ Outdoor Track
Junior Hannah Jackson competed on behalf of the Branford girls’ outdoor track team at the CIAC Heptathlon at Willow Brook Park on June 14. Jackson finished in 50th place after scoring 791 points at the competition.
Jackson finished in 43rd place for the shot put with a throw of 19 feet-4.25 inches in the CIAC Heptathlon. Jackson also finished in 50th place in both the 100 hurdles (21.33) and the 200-meter dash (32.45) at the meet.
