New Monument Approved on North Haven Town Green
A monument on the Town Green honoring North Haven residents who served the country in the post-Vietnam era was approved by a nearly unanimous Town Meeting vote on March 29.
The monument would honor servicemen and servicewomen who served the country in the global war on terrorism since Sept. 11, 2001, as well as those who served in Iraq, Lebanon, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Panama, the Gulf War, Somalia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan.
Several residents have been working on the monument since it was first proposed, including Post 76 American Legion Commander Dan Riccio, U.S. Marine and North Haven resident Raymond Fowler, North Haven State Senator Leonard Fasano, and State Representative Dave Yaccarino.
The monument will join other memorials that already honor the service of those who served in World War II and the Korea and Vietnam conflicts.
