Constance W. Wakelee of Heritage Village, Southbury, passed away on Feb. 18. She was born in New York City on Nov. 25, 1930, the daughter of the late Glenn L. and Ruth (Gausmann) Werly. She was a graduate of Emma Willard School and Sweet Briar College.
She is survived by David her husband of 62 years. She is also survived by five children, Jeffrey Wakelee (Linda) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Anne Wakelee Bishop of Katonah, New York, Holly Astrausky (James) of Guilford, Barbara Navarro (Edmund) of Daniel Island, South Carolina, and Karen Wakelee of East Haven; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson.
Connie established a home for her family in many cities and states as a result of job transfers and changes. The family settled in Guilford for 30 years. There she was involved in many community activities. She was a member of the High School Parents Advisory Council, a board member of the Guilford Handcraft (Art) Center, director of the North Guilford Nursery School, a blue ribbon winner at juried flower shows, and an active member of Leete’s Island Garden Club.
Connie had a warm and outgoing personality with a lovely smile. She had compassion and empathy for all and a great enthusiasm for life.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers of the Visiting Nurse Association and, in particular, her longtime helpmate and friend Cynthia Atchison.
Remembrances may be made to organizations that reflect Connie’s love of art and nature.
