Madison Beaches on Display at Scranton Library
While some recent warm spells might have made Madison’s beaches still seem inviting, the warmer option is to visit the Scranton Library, where local photographer Christopher Jennings Penders will be displaying his collection of sunrise and sunset shots from Madison town beaches.
The collection, which opened Jan. 4, will be displayed in the adult room for the month’s duration. Jennings Penders, who works at the Scranton Library and has exhibited photos there previously, said he is excited to share his collection with the town.
“I’ve shown many photos throughout my years of exhibiting and when I show in Madison, I have found that what sells the best are Madison-based images,” he said. “I wanted a theme to this exhibit and because I discovered that sunrise/sunsets do best online and in local exhibits, I decided on using that theme.”
Jennings Penders has been exhibiting his work for more than 15 years and has shown in other Madison locations including Madison Arts Cinema, RJ Julia Café, First Niagara Bank, Peoples Bank, Willoughby’s Coffee, and Grand Apizza.
He said his passion for photography has always been a large part of his life.
“I’ve been taking pictures since I was 10 years old when my maternal grandfather bought my first camera,” he said “To this day I remember how excited I was to get that camera. I ran around the house snapping pictures of anything and everything, a clock on the wall, the television, people sitting around the kitchen table.”
The exhibit will include close to 20 photos. Of the $40 he’s charging for the matted 8x10 images, $5 per each photo is going to the Dann family in Madison.
According to the Madison Chamber of Commerce, Kathy and Rodger Dann were both critically injured in a car accident last year and are facing a mountain of medical work. Many members of the community have put together fundraising efforts and Jennings Penders said this is his contribution.
The photos are currently on display at the Scranton Library. For more information, visit www.cjpphotos.com.
