Renovations Close Children's Room at HCH Library
CLINTON - Attention parents: Stock up on books now before the Children's Room at the Henry Carter Hull Library closes for 16 days.
The Children's Room will undergo significant renovations from Saturday, March 9 through Monday, March 25, according to Children's Librarian Lynn Hidek.
"We are really thrilled. We've been wanting to do this for the longest time to make the room work the way it should for our patrons, and we're thrilled that we have the opportunity," Hidek said.
Renovations to that section of the library include turning the area where the circulation desk is into a computer resource area for school-aged children to allow them to research, write, and do school work in a more effective manner
A project table will also be installed there so children working on projects can collaborate together, which Hidek referred to as a "great resource for kids in town."
A big advantage of the renovations is moving the circulation desks so librarians can better greet residents who visit this area.
"We're moving our circulation desk so it's in the area where the computers are that kids use," said Hidek. "This will allow us to face the opening of the door and be able to greet people and help people ever so much more easily."
The renovations are also leading to the reorganization of picture books by category, making it easier for parents and children to find what interests them, whether it be pirate or princess books.
Hidek pointed out that much of the new components to the Children's Room have been completed off site, allowing the renovations to close this section of the library only for about two weeks.
Though the room won't be open to the public for a time, residents will still be able to check out children's DVDs, which will be located in a special section in the adult audiovisual area of the library.
As residents will be taking out books prior to the closure, an extended drop-off date will be issued after March 25. Hidek encourages parents to stop in before the renovations and take advantage of all that is offered prior to new Children's Room opening.
"We're encouraging them to be really very generous with themselves and take out lots of books," she said.
